Ag. Director Engineering Design and Evaluation Department

Engr. Tunau Bello Abdulkadir has had professional experiences spanning over three decades in Public Service. He has served in several committees that have successfully initiated and provided engineering infrastructure within districts of the FCT.

He commenced his professional career in 1989 with the Federal Capital Development Authority, Abuja as a Civil Engineer in the Abuja Central Area Engineering Infrastructure Project under the Roads and Earthworks section. Between the years 1991-2016, he has held Resident Engineer in Charge positions for various projects such as development of road networks for the Jabi district infrastructures; expansion of the international terminal building and facilities at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja; Construction of engineering infrastructure to Idu industrial Area 1B district, to mention a few.

Engr. Tunau holds an MBA from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and has attended several professional trainings including light rail training, due process procurement and environment impact assessment.

Brief History

The Department of Engineering Design and Evaluation (DEDE) was carved out of the then Department of Engineering Services in 2014 following FCDA Board approval at its 7th meeting on 25th September 2014. The Department is responsible for undertaking the Planning, Design, and review of all Engineering Infrastructure and Services in the Federal Capital City (FCC) and co-ordinating other similar tasks in the Territory in line with the provision of the Abuja Master Plan. The Department is also responsible for evaluating and monitoring all ongoing Engineering Infrastructure projects and managing the FCDA Infrastructure Geographic Information System (FIGIS).  The staff of the then Division of Logistics and Design in the Department of Engineering Services formed the bulk of the staff of the new Department in April 2015.

Functions

In line with the vision of the FCDA Management, the DEDE was mandated to carry out the following functions:

(i) Design of Engineering Infrastructure which includes:

  • Design of Primary/Regional roads
  • Design of Sewerage infrastructure (Interceptor Sewage Schedules)
  • Design of Electrical Power Supply and Telecommunication Infrastructure
  • Design of Water Supply Infrastructure
  • Design of Engineered Solid Waste Treatment Facilities in the FCC/FCT
  • Design of Gas Supply Infrastructure
  • Design of Transit way Infrastructure
  • General Review of Infrastructure Master Plans (Water, Sewage, Electricity)

(ii) Monitoring and Evaluation of on-going Engineering projects,

(iii) In-House Design and Design Reviews,

(iv) Carrying out of Detailed Engineering Studies of Existing Infrastructure,

(v) Detailed Hydrological Studies and Channelization of River Courses in the FCC,

(vi) Residency Supervision of Consultants on Mega Projects.
