The Acting Executive Secretary of the FCDA, Tpl. Zaliha’u Ahmed has charged residents of the Federal Capital Territory to ensure that they obtain the requisite approvals before embarking on any form of development in any part of the FCT as the Territory is a well-planned one.

        She enjoined residents to always adhere to the approved guidelines and framework while embarking on developments so that the resources meant for the planning and development of the Territory would not be wasted.

        The Acting Executive Secretary gave the charge when she received a delegation from the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Channel 5, Abuja, led by the General Manager, Fatima Abass Hassan, on a courtesy visit to her office.

        She stated that “Every citizen must develop in line with guidelines; we have a proper document, we have guidelines and framework for development of the FCT.  Therefore, people should not go and develop without guidelines.  You must have approvals for development; there is no where you can just move in and start building.  We must obey the law”.

        She observed that the major problem being encountered in the planning and development of the FCT was violation of regulations by developers.  She therefore solicited the assistance of NTA Channel 5 on public enlightenment to reverse the trend.

        “Our major problem in the FCT is people violating our regulations.  All the issues we are having on flooding; issues of fire disasters are as a result of our lawlessness.  So, I appeal that you should enlighten our residents to always be law-abiding and always ensure that the provisions of the Abuja Master Plan are adhered to strictly”, she said.

        In her remarks, the General Manager, NTA Channel 5, Abuja, Fatima Abass Hassan appreciated the existing collaboration between the NTA and FCDA which she said was making their work easier and called for its sustenance.

        She likewise appreciated the FCDA on sundry interventions in their premises which she said had greatly enhanced security in the area.  She solicited for more of such gestures as both organizations continue to work together for their mutual benefits.
