FCT Minister

The Honourable Minister Nyesom WikeHis Excellency,
Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, CON, Life-Bencher

Born to the family of Reverend and Mrs.  Nlemanya Wike of Rumuepirikom community, Rivers State, Nigeria. His Excellency Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, immediate past Governor of Rivers State, is a lawyer, life-bencher, outstanding administrator, politician, and family man.

Ezenwo Nyesom Wike holds a first degree in Political Science/Administrative Studies and Law. After a brief stint in private legal practice, Nyesom Wike yielded to calls to public service and was elected and served twice as the Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State between 1999 and 2007.

In 2004, Nyesom Wike served as Deputy President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and was later elected the President of ALGON. He also represented Africa as a member of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth Local Governments Forum.

As Council Chairman, Nyesom Wike’s performance was so profound that he emerged best performing Local Government Council Chairman in the State throughout his two tenures.

As ALGON National President, he led all Local Government Councils across the country to commit to effective grassroots development.

Between October 26, 2007, and May 28, 2011, Nyesom Wike served as the Chief of Staff, at Government House, Port Harcourt.

On the 14th of July, 2011, Chief Wike was appointed and sworn in by President Goodluck Jonathan as the Honourable Minister of State for Education, and he later emerged as the Supervising Minister of Education in 2013 following a cabinet reshuffle.

As Minister, H.E. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike carried out meaningful reforms and expanded access to quality basic education for millions of children, including the Special Schools for Gists programme, and the provision of free textbooks and resource materials nationwide.

In 2015, Nyesom Wike was elected and served as the Governor of Rivers State. He was re-elected in 2019 and served out his second and final term on the 29′ of May 2023.

As Governor, he re-defined good governance through the delivery of landmark project In priority areas of infrastructure, education, healthcare, security, sport, rural development, Justice and urban renewal. Focused, passionate and determined Nyesom Wike was a pace-setter in quality project delivery.

Under his watch and leadership, the rivers state government delivered over one thousand kilometres of road infrastructure, including flyovers and dual carriage ways across the length and breadth of the state government area into some of the country’s most modern urban centres.

Furthermore, as governor, he built modern court buildings, provided official vehicles and enabled judicial officers to enjoy life-long accommodation of both the state and federal court in Rivers state.

On 21st  August 2023, Nyesom Wike was sworn in by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

Nyesom Wike is a recipient of numerous local, state, national, and international honours, including the commander of the Order of the Niger(CON), the grand service state of Rivers state(GSSRS) and power of sport(POS).

A Christian committed family man, Nyesom Wike is happily married to Hon. Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike, a high court judge with the Rivers state judiciary, and blessed with three lovely children: Jordan, Joaquin, and Jazmyne.

Executive Secretary

Engr. Shehu Hadi Ahmad (FNSE, FNIOB), was born on May 17th 1961, Engr. Ahmad started his working career in the defunct Bauchi State as a building engineer with the Ministry of Works and Transport and later transferred his services to Kaduna Polytechnic before joining the Federal Capital Development Authority. He served as Director, Engineering Services, up until his retirement. 

Engr. Shehu Hadi Ahmad is a registered member of COREN and a licensed builder, Engr. Ahmad was appointed a Commissioner for Works between 2011-2014.
