The Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) Engr. Umar Gambo Jibrin has met with critical stakeholders to review responsibilities for the provision of infrastructure, distribution and Maintenance of electricity architecture in the territory for the purpose of lightening up the city and enhancing security.

2. The Executive Secretary who attended the meeting with relevant officials of the FCT Administration including the Acting Coordinator of Abuja Metropolitan Management council (AMMC) Alh. Abdulhameed Suleiman, the Directors of Engineering Services, Urban and Regional planning and Facilities Maintenance respectively, expressed the growing dissatisfaction of the citizenry with the poor lightening situation in the city leading to security concerns especially along the Airport and Kubwa Expressways called for synergy among stakeholders in order to restore the confidence that both the government and the people repose in them by ensuring that there is a remarkable improvement in the current power situation and efficient and effective streetlights in the city.

3. The Executive Secretary revealed that the FCT Administration was in the process of providing additional transformers as well as replacing all aging components of the existing ones for better power supply.

4. He called on the Transition Company of Nigeria (TCN) and the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to consider severing all connections responsible for power tripping as well as explore the possibility of a dedicated power line to the Airport Road Expressway.

5.The Transition Company of Nigeria’s (TCN) General Manager, Programme Coordination, Engr. Ganiyu Aliyu who led other officials of the Company to the meeting said that the Company was already working on five (5) new sub-stations in Abuja which will be completed in 2years time, noting that it was intended to improve power supply to the FCT especially on the Airport Road Expressway which will have a 230KVA line dedicated to it.

6. On its part, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) Of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) Engr. Saidu Abdullahi gave assurance that it will key into any effort that will ensure steady power supply as it made business sense to keep the bulbs working.

7. Other decisions reached at the meeting include the need for a joint technical Committee of the FCDA, TCN and AEDC to carry out an Audit of Power facilities in the city for immediate maintenance including regular replacement of spare parts such as bulbs and cables.

8.It was further agreed that there was need for improve communication, unhindered access to facilities and joint patrols by stakeholders which is necessary for prompt identification and rectification of problems.

9. The meeting will reconvene in a month’s time to assess progress made on the various action plans and timelines assigned to the participants.
