The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has again assured all residents of the FCT of the Administration’s determination and commitment to extend its developmental efforts to all the nooks and crannies of the Territory, rather than concentrate on the Federal Capital City (FCC) only.
To this effect, the Administration has just concluded another round of flag–offs of the construction of projects in two Area Councils, AMAC and Kwali. These projects include an Access Road from Kabusa to Takushara and Kabusa to Ketti. Another contract has also been awarded for the Provision of Access Road to the new EFCC Academy in Giri District (all three contracts are in AMAC); and the Construction of 15 Kilometer Road from A2 Junction Abuja – Lokoja Road to Pai in Kwali Area Council.
Speaking during the road flag–offs, the Minister stressed the importance of delivering on governmental commitments, underscoring the impact it could have on local communities. He said providing rural roads would improve residents’ well-being, enhance access to farmlands, and improve security in rural areas, among other things.
The Minister described the flag–off of roads in rural areas as part of the Tinubu Administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said is aimed at restoring faith among those who may have lost hope in the government.
“Mr. President has directed that we must also open up all the Satellite towns, and that is what we are doing now. We are laying the foundation for the future. For the first time, roads are being constructed in rural areas and street lights will also be part of this initiative. This is a commitment that has never happened before. It is part of the Renewed Hope Agenda that our efforts are not to concentrate on the development of the city “, he said.
He assured that the initiative would not suffer the fate of abandoned projects typical of the past as the present Administration does not award projects that would be abandoned.
While giving the Overview of the projects, the Acting Executive Secretary of the FCDA, Engr Richard Yunana Dauda, noted that the roads would improve the social and economic well-being of the people, provide comfortable routes for vehicular and pedestrian movements, provide quick access to health facilities and quick response to security challenges
The Acting Executive Secretary added that road construction would also provide skilled and unskilled job opportunities for the residents and thereby improve their economic well-being.
Other non–road projects also flagged off include the Design, Construction, and Furnishing of an Office Annex for the Body of Benchers, FCT, and the Design and Construction of 10 Staff Quarters for the Nigerian Law School in Bwari Area Council.
